Epidemic - 2024

Epidemic is a series of work that explores an abstract look into thoughts and feelings of constant isolation. The name of the project comes from the term “Loneliness epidemic”, a hidden plague that creaped its way through society since the turn of the century. With a world built on technology and the need to keep people indoors using it, almost 1 in 4 adults globally now report experiencing constant feelings on loneliness or isolation. The epidemic itself affecting younger adults the most, as a disturbing 70% of adults aged 18-24 feeling some sort of isolation in their life.

Epidemic dives into the mind of the isolated through an abstract lens. Emotions run strong through each picture as the viewer is encouraged to think about how the isolated in our society must feel, how they must live and how they must navigate their own mind. The use simple self-portraiture being a tool used to frame the overwhelming and abstract nature of a mind rotted by isolation, each picture moulded to depict the flood of emotions the isolated feel. Anger, sadness and numbness. Each emotion a result of the constant pressure the mind puts on people to form bonds with others, while everything else in the world tries its hardest to sever those bonds forever.

As more and more people around the world begin to feel the affects of isolation on their bodies and minds, it is important that we put into question how it happens and what must be done to stop it. Epidemic sets out to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comforted into questioning what must be done to stop the spread of loneliness in a world being pushed down the rabbit hole into a dystopian nightmare.
